The Streak Ends at 53 "It was definitely a team effort..."David Lee"
Justin Libaste-BASD
As the game took off, the Warriors could not find their offense as Head Coach Keith Smart called an early timeout with 9:23 on the clock in the first quarter. Coming out of the timeout, Warriors hoped to continue their sharp shooting from beyond the arch, but ironically, they began the game 0 for 4. The Warriors responded as Curry shot back-to-back three point field goals and maintaining an 8-0 run to ignite their offense struggling from the field before the run. Andris Biedrins was in an unfortunate position as he was caught in foul trouble sending him to the bench but Ekpe Udoh would not let the T'wolves score in the paint as he made his presence known down low making spectacular blocks filling in the role for Biedrins. Head Coach Kurt Rambis of the T'wolves made an interesting move by giving Kevin Love a long rest going into half-time as Kevin Love was held to only 4 points and 6 rebounds. Warriors led the T'wolves 49-44 at halftime as David Lee did a great job containing Love keeping him off the glass both defensively and offensively. In the start of the second-half, the Warriors did not let up as they went on a 13-3 run with momentum running on their side. The Warriors continued to play great defense against Kevin Love double-teaming him every time Love would touch the ball as a frustrated Love struggled to get points on the board, which he was held to only a point in the whole quarter. As the Warriors were pushing to a 20-point lead, the T'wolves grabbed the momentum as the lead was cut to 9 points. Warriors responded by outscoring the T'wolves 26 to 15 in the whole quarter playing great basketball. The Warriors maintained the lead throughout the whole quarter and especially in the game as they out-rebounded the best offensive-rebounding and rebounding team in the whole entire league. Love only needed to score 4 more points to extend his double-double streak as his rebound total reached to 12 with 6 minutes left on the clock. David Lee thought other wise as he defended him with physicality doing a great job fronting him and his teammates helping (Lee) him with help defense from the weak side, which was according to game plan. Great defense from Lee and the Warriors resulted in Love to check out from the game with 4 minutes left as he was held to only 6 points and 12 rebounds for the entirety of the game ending his streak at 53. Adding to the success on the defensive side, the Warriors came out with the win dominant holding the T'wolves with a season low 77 points in the season. The final score of the game came out to be 100 - 77 Warriors. "...it gives you confidence to let you know you are capable of being a good rebounding team if you focus on what you need to do..." Head Coach Keith Smart. David Lee on stopping and containing Kevin Love from getting a double-double, "It was definitely a team effort...When it came down to it in the fourth quarter I told coach when he (Kevin Love) comes back in and do my best attempt to not let him get to 10 points..." In addition, so did Lee, ending Love's streak to a remarkable 53 straight double-doubles. The record will go down as one of the greatest records held to date knowing that he hustled every game with an injury. Kevin Love's reaction to his end of the double-double streak, "I didn't shoot the ball particularly well, so that's kind of why the streak came to an end...More than anything I thought it was a tough loss." Kudos to Love because that record is an amazing feat coming to each game ready to play hard and get a win for the team. The Warriors hope to keep their winning ways as they will travel to Sacramento to face the Kings tomorrow Monday 3/14. We all remember the last time the Kings and Warriors.
