Andre Ward is officially on a path to becoming a star in the boxing world.  For the second fight in a row, Ward has faced a legit, top-ten opponent and not just won, but looked extremely impressive in the process.  In this case, still undefeated Andre “S.O.G” Ward (22-0, 13 KOs) of Oakland, California won a twelve round unanimous decision over Allan “Ghost Dog” Green (29-2, 20 KOs) of Tulsa, Oklahoma to retain his WBA Super Middleweight title.  This fight, held at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, was a Stage 2 fight in Showtime’s Super Six tournament and allows Ward to progress to the semi-final round.

The fighters were pretty tentative in the first two rounds.  Ward threw some quick, lead left hooks and seemed to be judging what strategy Green would utilize.   Ward has very fast hands and this was on display from the opening bell.  Ward can fire off and land a left hook or uppercut before an opponent, in this case Allan Green, can even react.

Turning Point in the Fight

The third round was the turning point in the bout.  Green found himself on the ropes and attempted to negate Ward’s offense by holding onto Ward’s left arm.  This proved to be a mistake since Ward used his free right hand to pepper Green with good body shots, uppercuts and hooks.  Green remained on the ropes for at least two minutes of the round which allowed for a lot of close-in action.  This pattern repeated itself throughout the fight, with Green spending a lot of the fight with his back to the ropes.

Green had a very casual demeanor and never showed any fire or passion during the entire fight.  By the 11th round, Green looked to be in survival mode, backing up and fighting in a pretty defensive manner.  Ward continued to press the action up until the final bell.

It was not a surprise when all three judges scored the fight 120-108, giving Ward every round of the fight.  That is what you call a dominating performance.
