SHARKS SIGN DEFENSEMAN BRENDAN BUCKLEY
7/15/08 SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed free agent defenseman Brendan Buckley to a one-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In 2007-08, Buckley, 31, played in 43 games for Iserlohn of the DEL posting four points (0-4=4) and 119 penalty minutes.
Buckley posted nine points (2-7=9) and 107 penalty minutes in 63 games with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League during the 2006-07 season. He has appeared in 501 career AHL games with Cincinnati, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Syracuse, the Worcester IceCats, Peoria and Manchester posting 83 points (13-70=83) and 84 penalty minutes.
Buckley went to the Calder Cup Finals in 2000-01 with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and has played in 54 career AHL Calder Cup Playoff games posting five assists (0-5=5). He played against the Worcester Sharks, the top AHL affiliate of San Jose, in the first round of the 2006-07 Calder Cup Playoffs with Manchester.
The 6-foot, 205-pound native of Needham, Massachusetts played collegiate hockey at Boston College from 1995-99, where in 158 games he posted 39 points (4-35=39) and 306 penalty minutes.
Buckley was originally selected by Anaheim in the 5th round (117th overall) in the1996 Entry Draft.
SHARKS SIGN CENTER CORY LAROSE
SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed free agent center Cory Larose to a one-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In 2007-08, Larose, 33, played in 47 games for Lulea HF of the Swedish Elite League posting 28 points (10-18=28). He also recorded 83 penalty minutes, which was second on the team.
The 5-foot-11, 190 pound native of Campbellton, New Brunswick posted 83 points (22-61=83) in 63 games with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League during the 2006-07 season. He ranked second on the team with 137 penalty minutes.
Larose made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers during the 2003-04 season, posting one assist and four penalty minutes in seven games.
In six AHL seasons, Larose has appeared in 372 regular season games posting 334 points (120-214=334). He has appeared in 63 Calder Cup Playoff games, making it to at least the third round three times in his career, recording 44 points (19-25=44). |
