It’s a New Era and New Look for
the 2007-08 San Jose Sharks

On
Monday, September 17, 2007 at the HP Pavilion,
the Sharks unveiled a new Sharks jersey to
compliment the new logo that was also unveiled
just a month ago at the Hp Pavilion as well.
It was Terry Smith, who also created
the Sharks original and updated logos, with
input from select players, Jamison, Executive
Vice President of Business Operations Malcolm
Bordelon, Equipment Manager Mike Aldrich and
several members of the Business Operations
Department.
Equipment Manager Mike Aldrich
was also very pleased with the new look. The
new logo and the Sharks jersey give a whole
new face-lift for the 2007-08 Sharks. “In my
20 years of working in sports, I have never
seen a more collaborative effort in creating a
uniform,” said Aldrich. “By giving the
players and hockey staff a hand in the
creation and development of these jerseys,
Greg (Jamison) and Malcolm (Bordelon) have
given this team more incentive to be proud of
their sweater. Terry was very receptive to
our ideas and really helped make this ‘our’
jersey.”
The introduction of the
re-designed Sharks sweater comes in
conjunction with the launch of the new RbK
EDGE Uniform System™.
The newly designed sweater
incorporates the updated Sharks logo and the
team’s primary colors of Deep Pacific Teal,
Burnt Orange and Black.
President and Chief Executive
Officer Greg Jamison was also very
pleased as he elaborated with a smile on the
new look. “Our goal was to produce a uniform
that paid homage to our birth as a franchise
while incorporating a few elements that are
more ‘now’”, said Jamison. “The striping on
the jersey is reminiscent to our first
sweaters. We increased the size of the
numbers and added them to the front of the
sweater, which will help our fans in
identifying our players more quickly and
easily. On top of all that, we are excited by
the new technological innovations made by RbK.”
Head
coach Ron Wilson
(Photo left-click photo to view as a larger
image) wished he
had the same look and technology back in his
day. “I wish we had some of these jerseys back
in the day to have an advantage. I like these
uniforms” said Shark’s head coach Ron Wilson.
Ron Wilson also noted that the Sharks have
invested 72 million on the team. “The fans
deserve it as well as the players. They say
we have the best fans in the NHL.” If you’ve
been to a Sharks game, you would know why
Wilson mentions how great the fans are. This
year, Bay Area Sports Drive (Sharks Drive)
will feature crazed Shark fan interviews and
photo galleries during every home game at

.
Shark’s Captain Patrick Marleau
who was just inked to a two-year contract
extension that is believed to be worth the
excess amount of 6 million per season was very
excited about the new look. “We wore
prototypes of the new RbK EDGE Uniform System
at the NHL All-Star Game in Dallas in January
and they were very comfortable,” said Marleau.
“RbK really went the extra mile in developing
these and used a lot of the player feedback
that was given to them. Having a new look is
really exciting and we’re eager to get on the
ice.”
The
Sharks begin their exhibition schedule at Los
Angeles on Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. San Jose
hosts preseason games at HP Pavilion on Sept.
21 (Anaheim), Sept. 22 (Vancouver) and Sept.
29 (Calgary)
At home the Sharks will sport
the Deep Pacific Teal sweater features a
“white-orange-black-orange-white” stripe
sequence on both the mid-arm and below the
main crest on the tail. The player’s number,
which is white with orange and black trim, is
located on the sleeves, above the main crest
on the front and on the back of the jersey.
The shoulders are black with white trim. Each
shoulder also sports the full jumping shark
logo. The V-neck collar is composed of a
black-orange-white stripe sequence.

Other Notes:
Silicon Valley business leaders Steve Luczo
and Bill and Denise Watkins have gone from
season ticket holders to sports owners by
leading an investor group in purchasing the
San Jose Stealth (who plays at the HP) indoor
professional lacrosse team, it was announced
today.
“Lacrosse is the
fastest growing sport in the United States and
we want to help continue that growth here in
the Bay Area,” Denise Watkins said. “Lacrosse
is such an active sport, it’s a great game for
kids. It’s fun, fast family entertainment and
is much more accessible from a cost
perspective than other professional sports. We
want to expose more people to it because it’s
a fun game to watch.”
The Stealth will
open their 2008 home schedule Friday, January
11th vs. Calgary at 7:30 PM. It is the first
of eight regular season home games, all on
weekends. While the team will continue to play
its games at HP Pavilion, they have moved
their office headquarters to Pleasanton, CA
