Rick Rhoden Defeats Romo for 20th American Celebrity Golf Championship!
Rick Rhoden wins the 2009 American Century Championship. Rhoden managed to get by his eighth Celebrity Championship even though he posted a two over par round with four bogies and only two birdies for the day. This is Rhoden's first time winning this tournament in back-to-back years. Finishing second was Tony Romo with just one birdie away from Rhoden. Romo shot one under par round of 71 and played consistent golf all day long. Romo kept things close by making three birdies on his last five holes. Coming in a tie for third were past Champions Dan Quinn and Champion Billy Joe Tolliver. Tolliver was hot with four birdies on his front nine and no bogies. Billy Joe Tolliver shot the low score for the day but due to a couple of bad strokes kept Billy Joe from his third Championship. Rick Rhoden is by far one of the strongest players at this tournament. It is his eighth championship title as he takes the victory for the first time within two consecutive years. Aside from having the honors of taking the trophy, Rhoden earned himself a total of 74 points with $125,000. For others comes the not so good. I guess we can use the term "the good-bad and ugly". It was extremely close and right to the wire between Charles Barkley and Chuck Liddell. Charles Barkley took the win for a score with a total of minus 97 points, however wins the hearts of all of us. Right behind Barkley Liddell summed up 94. I think we need to pair theses boys up next year. It's always fun tournament to watch with great weather and a beautiful scenery.
