Saturday night, the Monterey Bay Fight Club put on ’Coastal Collision’ which was their first-ever event and they seemed like old pros in pulling off an exciting event.   Monterey Bay Fight Club was co-founded by local standout boxer Carina “La Reina” Moreno as a means to bring boxing and MMA events to the Bay Area as well as creating an avenue to fight under her own promotional banner.

The JJ Crosetti Building at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville served as an intimate setting which gave everyone in attendance a great view.   Approximately 750 fans cheered on the amateur MMA fighters who gave their all in the ring.  There were eight MMA fights, with all the fighters being based out of the Bay Area.  There were several fighters from Watsonville and the cheers were noticeably louder for those true hometown fighters.

The highlight for the great majority of the fans in attendance was when Manuel Diaz from Watsonville submitted Efain Cintron of San Francisco with a choke mid-way through the first round but there were a lot of great moments throughout the evening.  In the main event, Marco Del Real from Santa Cruz defeated Donasabe Mohammed from Napa.

All of the fights were sanctioned by the California Amateur Martial Arts Organization (C.A.M.O.) which is a governing body for amateur MMA in California.  Look out for more events promoted by Monterey Bay Fight Club, especially since it is so rare to have any live MMA or boxing events in either Santa Cruz County or Santa Clara County.
