 Lose or Win 49er Faithful

By Larry Garcia Bay Area Sports Drive 10/18/09

Once upon a time, there were two teams that had both Raider and 49er fans spoiled. Back when the Silver & Black collimated three Super Bowls and the 49ers with five Super Bowls. It was with great coaching-defense-offense, with names who optimized what the game was truly about such as Bill Walsh, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lot, Rodger Craig, Kenny Stabler, Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen, Marv Hubbard, and Art Shell….that kept fans in a craze. It’s been a long draught for both sides.

For 49er fans, it’s new coaching under a once prized and great player that put fear in opposing teams, Mike Singletary who has brought new life to the scarlet and gold and especially to the 49er faithful once again.

Bay Area Sports Drive strolled down (49er Lane) SF parking lot, where the smell of BBQ-great cooking-wine and cold refreshments was offered and proudly sporting their colors.  Ah, the meat, ribs, lamb, shrimp, salsa’s…. yes, 49er fans can do it up too.

Bay Area Sports Drive had the opportunity to get 49er faithful perspectives and their thoughts on a new 49er presence for 2009.

We talked to two 49er fans who call themselves “Red Fog”. Marcos from Lathrop California is proud to be a 49er fan. Red Fog is a new club. “It’s for the fans,” said Marcos who has been a 49er die-hard since the 80’s. “Anybody can be part of Red Fog from the Grandfather-Daughter-son… anyone.” Marcos and his brother showed their passion as 49er fans by giving out T-shirts and gold horns so more fans can get involve at games and chant Red Fog”!  Look for Red Fog’s Marcos and his Brother Jesus at all 49er games and go to www.redfog.net.

Adrian from Tracy California and his brother Mark originally from the bay area San Leandro who had a great BBQ going with a huge plasma screen TV gave their perspective on the 49ers 2009 season and on Mike Singletary and the 49ers. “I see that Mike Singletary came into the 49ers with a lot of his team respecting him for his accomplishments. With Singletary we will do better as a team and we (fans) have high expectations this year because of Singletary. If we play a team that’s undefeated or has a losing record, this year compared to last, no matter who we play, we’re going to continue to fight”. Mark felt that it’s the whole team and coaches fighting hard this year for Singletary. “Singletary’s teaching the team how to play like professionals and if you play hard like Pros, then you’re going to win.”

49er faithful sound like they have scarlet and gold faith this season even more so than last.
