Wagner Holds Off Romo

2011 American Century Golf Championship

Jack Wagner (Actor) Holds off a late run from Dallas Cowboy Toni Romo to win the American Century Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe.

Coming down the 16th fairway, Toni Romo was making a late charge. When they hit the 18th hole, Jack went into the water. This gave Toni Romo a chance to win it. Jack Wagner had a 3-point lead, and that was just enough to get the victory.

Jack Wagner said, “Sometimes things happen for a reason, and I kind of made a couple of birdies on the back nine coming in. Didn’t get the par 5’s, but to get one-under in a day when probably going a little sideways. I’m kind of happy with that. So I got in... , and I'm still in the lead and know I've got to grind it out because a lot of guys made birdies. Its was finally nice to win this tournament. As and Actor beating up on these athletes was nice.”

Tahoe Celebrity Golf 2nd Round

Conditions for scoring were good, and players took advantage of one more day around Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course Saturday as day-one-leader Jack Wagner holds his lead heading into Sunday’s final round.

The 2006 champion holds a six-point lead over a charging Tony Romo who posted a day two high off 27 to pull into second place at 46 points. Romo credited his putting afterwards saying he was much more satisfied with his approach on the green more than anything. Today I hit the lines consistently. And the putts I missed were speed related or just a little off with the line,” he said. “The putting was terrible (Friday). The putts that I hit good, I just misread. Then once every three or four holes I just.

A stellar front nine saw Romo score 12 points, hitting birdie on just two holes before carding a bogey on the ninth heading into the back nine where he turned up the heat on Wagner. Down eight, Romo birdied 11, birdied 12 and was shortly within four when Wagner caught fire with two straight birdies of his own on 14 and 15.

Three straight pars to close the round for Wagner was matched by a birdie on the 18th from Romo which keeps one of the favorites in the running headed into Sunday’s final round.

1st round completed as players played 18 holes at Edgewood Golf Course in Lake Tahoe. Looking at the leader Board, we have Jack Wagner 29 along with Jeremy at 24 along with Cris Chandler at 24…following, we have Toni Romo, Rick Rhoden, and Tim Brown trying not-to-fall back too far. However, we still have two days left with a lot of Golf. Even Michael Jordan had a good day.MJ quoted his putting was good and he felt his golf was par for the day. Tiger Woods old trainer Hank Hainey was in town giving tips to some of the athletes.

Dan Quinn basically I had two similar rounds two days in a row. Quinn hit a lot of greens and some good shots.  I am doing ok, have not gotten into too much trouble, but at this tournament there such a president of birdies that you really need to make the putts. More on the story>>>
