Battling Head-to-Head for the NLCS Giants vs. Phillies World Series
The San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies battled head to head for the NLCS, both teams fighting extremely hard to earn their place in the World Series. At AT&T Park in San Francisco, the Giants kicked Philly cheese buns winning 3-0. In game 3, and in game 4 with the help of Juan Uribe’s sacrifice fly ball the Giants were able to beat the Phillies again in the 9th inning by a score of 6-5 that put them one game shy of closing the deal on the World Series adjacent to the winning ALCS team. However, in game five they lose to the Phillies 4-2, after Jason Werth hits a home run at the bottom of the 9th inning forcing the Giants back to Philadelphia for game six.
The game become even more intense when Giants pitcher, Jonathan Sanchez lost control on the mound in a heated argument with Chase Utley of the Phillies after hitting Utley in the back. Before Giants Manager Bruce Bochy could get the chance to pull Sanchez out, both teams struggle to keep their cool. Jeremy Affeldt is then left to relieve Sanchez in the 3rd inning. In the 8th inning Phillies pitcher Ryan Madson is on the hill with two outs, and suddenly Juan Uribe hits a home run out of right field breaking the tie! Brian “Fear the Beard” Wilson closed the 9th inning with the Giants still leading 3-2. Two outs are at the top of the 9th when it came to a stand off between Wilson and extreme pull hitter, Ryan Howard. The tension amongst fans got crazy…Phillie fans are at the edge of their seats clenching their teeth, keeping their fingers crossed, and praying Howard will bring them to victory, but… Wilson strikes him out! And the Giants are going to the World Series! The National League Pennant belongs to the well deserved San Francisco Giants as they are now going to the World Series against the Texas Rangers.
The battle between the Giants and The Phillies, both incredibly strong teams, was truly a fight to the finish. It wasn’t easy for the Giants, but they came through playing fire with fire against the undefeatable Phillies and as in the words of AC/DC, “For those about to rock we salute you San Francisco Giants!” |
