“I definitely did not serve well and that played a big part today. Especially in the first set, I would have had a couple of other opportunities if I had served better. I played fairly well in the first set, but a serve is a big part of a game to be missing.”

“I have always played well on hardcourts and one of my favorite trips of the year is coming to Stanford. I have played a lot in the last few months and changed surfaces a lot from clay to grass to indoors at the Fed Cup to hardcourts here.”

“She played well the whole time and I made some errors in the second set that she took advantage of. She’s a tough player and I knew that coming in. I have some pointers for next time we play and will work on a couple of things. She’s a great mover, is very fast, and hits the ball very deep in the court. She just keeps fighting for every point.”

“The younger players play from the start like they have nothing to lose. Once it gets to five-all or six-all that’s when experience can play a little bit of a role; they can get a little bit nervous and might not go for shots as much as in the beginning. (Nicole) is a really good player. She is so accurate at times with her serve and it is really hard to read.”
