May 16,2009- *FC Gold Pride earned the team’s first road win of the season, a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday night at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.

“We played a very good game against the best attacking team in the league, on the road,” said FC Gold Pride Head Coach Albertin Montoya.  “It was a good win for us.  We had game plan we stuck to it and played very well.  We played a lot of pressure on them in the first half and got a goal.”

With the win, the Pride jumps over the Red Stars in the standings, into a tie with the Boston Breakers for second place with 10 total points on the season.  The Breakers are scheduled to play their week-seven match on Sunday, giving them a chance to break the current tie.

The Pride turned up the pressure on the Red Star defense in the first half, ultimately creating numerous goal scoring opportunities.  Thirty minutes into the match, Christine Sinclair, assisted by Adriane, scored her second goal of the season, what would ultimately be the game winner for the Pride.

In her first start of the season and only her second appearance for the Pride, Adriane how has assists on two game-winning goals for the Pride.

“Adriane, was the difference maker in that play,” said Montoya.

“I thought Adriane played great,” added Sincalir. “She created a lot of chances for us, created the goal and had a couple of chances are her own. She really did a great job.”

For the Red Stars, this was the team’s second consecutive loss at home.  The normally active attacking team was held to just 7 shots. Only one of Chicago’s shots was taken by the Red Stars leading goal scorer Lindsay
Tarpley.

“We played with a lot of heart and determination which showed in the last few minutes of the game,” said Montoya.  “We held on defensively.  Our back line was outstanding today.”

The Pride, now 3-3-1 will return home on Sunday to prepare to take on the first place Sol on Sunday, May 24 at home.  After two road games in the Midwest, the team is looking forward to playing at home.

“We’re always excited to play at home,” said Montoya of the upcoming game.  “Wehave a winning record at home I know the players and us as coaches alwayslook forward to playing a Buck Shaw.  Having the fans behind you out there
goes a long way.”

Pride fans will be out in full force for the first appearance of three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, Marta and the Los Angeles Sol. Sunday’s marquee matchup will kick off at 4 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium.

QUOTES OF THE GAME:

Albertin Montoya

We played a very good game against the best attacking team in the league, on the road.  It was a good win for us.  We had game plan we stuck to it and played very well.  We played a lot of pressure on them in the first half and got a goal.

We played with a lot of heart and determination which showed in the last few minutes of the game.  We held on defensively.  Our back line was outstanding today.

It has been frustrating. The good thing is they have been creating chances.

Adriane (in her first start) was the difference maker in that play.

It felt good to come to Chicago and play a good team and get a win.

I’m excited to play LA again.  We played them very well the first time around and we only allowed Marta to take two shots.  This tiem we need to make sure we shut her down. I think we’ll be fine.

We’re always excited to play at home.  We play real exciting soccer. We’ve got a winning record at home I know the players and coaches look forward to playing a Buck Shaw.  Having the fans there goes a long way.

Christine Sinclair

It was a huge goal for us.  One of our goals heading into the game was to try to get a goal in the first half. Adriane made a great run down the line.

I thought Adriane played great.  She created a lot of chances for us. Created the goal and had a couple of chances are her own.

I think they’re a very dangerous team. They attack with a lot of very skilled, quick players.  For us it was a mindset heading into the game “team defense,” don’t dive in, wait for support and that is something we did all game long and that was something that limited the amount of chances they got.
