SANTA CLARA, CA – Sunday, April 19, 2009 – FC Gold Pride suffered the team’s first-ever loss and was shut out for the first time in franchise history by Marta and the Los Angeles Sol on Sunday afternoon on the road at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

“This was definitely a disappointing loss,” said FC Gold Pride Head Coach Albertin Montoya. “We played very well and deserved at least a point if not three points today. I thought we controlled and dominated the first half, we just didn’t put our chances way.”

FC Gold Pride made an early and unexpected substitution in the 15th minute of play, bringing on Erika for an injured Carrie Dew (knee).

“We to make adjustments early,” said Montoya.  “We lost Carrie 15 minutes in to the game and that’s a bit loss for us because she has been a key player
for us. “

Dew will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of her injury.

After trading scoring opportunities for the first 44 minutes of the game, Japanese international Aya Miyama received a well placed through ball that gave the Sol a one-on-one scoring opportunity in the closing moments of the first half. But with pressure from FC Gold Pride keeper Nicole Barnhart, Miyama was forced to take a quick shot six yards out that grazed the outside right post and ended the half.

In the 47th minute, midfielder Aly Wagner chipped a ball over the back line that found Marta running in stride through the 18 yard box. Marta settled the ball down, took a quick touch and placed it past Barnhart into the back of the net.

The Pride mounted a good attack but to no avail as they were shut out for the first time this season by the Sol, suffering the 1-0 loss to the undefeated Los Angeles team.

FC Gold Pride returns home for back-to-back home games, first taking on Abby Wambach and the Washington Freedom on Sunday, April 26 at 3 p.m.  Following the matchup with the Freedom, the Pride will host Sky Blue FC on May 3 at 5
p.m.  Fans can reserve seats for these and all upcoming Pride home games by logging into fcgoldpride.com or by calling (408) 541-3511.
