FC GOLD PRIDE TO CELEBRATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF
1999 WORLD CUP CHAMPIONSHIP

SANTA CLARA, CA* (June 23, 2009)- FC Gold Pride
will celebrate the 10thanniversary of the historic 1999 World Cup
Championship captured by the prolific U.S. Women’s Soccer Team.
The celebration will be held at Buck
Shaw Stadium at Santa Clara University as part of the excitement
surrounding the Pride’s match against the Saint Louis Athletica at 5
p.m.
The Pride will recognize Brandi Chastain, Tiffeny Milbrett, Tisha
Venturini-Hoch and Lori Fair for their team's accomplishments ten
years ago, when the United States defeated China in a penalty kick
shootout at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. The game, played
in front of a crowd of 90,185, remains the best-attended women's
sporting event in history and raised the
profile of women's soccer globally for years to come.
Fans will be given an opportunity to meet, get autographs and take
photos with Venturini-Hoch and Fair in the pregame fan festival.
Fans are invited to celebrate and relive the historic tournament
throughout the day with interactive elements in the pregame fan
festival including a display of memorabilia from the tournament
which will feature the Golden Boot Trophy,
Replica Championship trophy, championship medals, jerseys worn by
tournament participants and much more.
As part of the World Champions ticket package offered exclusively
for the July 5th match, fans will have the opportunity to meet ’99
World Cup champions Brandi Chastain and Lori Fair and have their
picture snapped with Chastain, Fair and the trophy on the field.
The 1999 World Champions 4 pack includes four tickets, four player
cards and an on-field photo with
Chastian, Fair and a 1999 World Cup Champions Replica Trophy for
only $49.
FC Gold Pride features the world’s best female soccer players
including 1999 World Cup tournament champions Chastain and Milbrett
as well as Sissi and Formiga who helped their native country of
Brazil to a third place finish in the tournament. Sissi was
awarded the golden boot and silver ball in the tournament for her
outstanding leadership and play in the tournament. Formiga
still captains Brazil’s women’s national team.
The Pride’s recognition of his historic anniversary is part of a
league-wide celebration, held in partnership with U.S. Soccer that
honors the legacy of that tournament and the legends from the World
Cup-winning U.S. Women’s National Team.
