Gilroy’s Robert Guerrero to face Marcos Maidana
In what will be the biggest fight of his career, Gilroy, California’s Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 KOs) will face off against Marcos “Chino” Maidana (30-2, 27 KOs) from Argentina on August 27, 2011 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Maidana will be the toughest opponent that Guerrero has ever fought and the winner has a very good chance of vaulting onto Ring Magazine’s Pound-for-Pound list. To illustrate the significance of the fight, HBO’s Boxing After Dark will be broadcasting the fight and it is widely expected to be a true war. Maidana exploded onto the U.S. boxing scene with his knockout win over Victor Ortiz. In fact, he hurt Ortiz so bad that Ortiz essentially quit in the fight, stating that he did not deserve such treatment and that he had had enough. This is the same Ortiz that recently beat Andre Berto and will be facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas in a big PPV event. There had been
some talk of Guerrero facing Juan Manuel Marquez but that fight never came
through. Boxing fans everywhere should thank their lucky stars because
