49ers have Another Problem-Troy

Who would have thought there would be a light before the end of the seasonal tunnel for the 49ers? However, week six took a turning point for the 49ers (0-5) by defeating the Raiders with a victory 17-9, week seven losing in Carolina 23-20, followed by a win in Denver 24-16. Week 9 a 49er Bye and rising to the occasion in week 10 by defeating the Rams 23-20 to give SF a 3-8 record.

49ers QB Smith, the other Smith Troy gave the fans a holiday treat on Sunday, 10/31 in Denver (12/19 for 196 yds) with a victory. Ok… it’s a one-time fluke in Denver some might have said. However, Troy Smith and teammates were once again victorious over the Rams. Smith was 17/28 for 356 yards. The 49ers have now won five consecutive games over the Rams winning three of their past four games.

The 49ers offense put up 454 yards from scrimmage, the team’s highest output of the season. The 454 yards from scrimmage are the most by the 49ers offense since 10/10/04 vs. Arizona. (474 yds. From scrimmage).

With all the drama within (coaches and players) and out of the 49er organization from fans when the 49ers were 0-5, much has settled in calmer waters for head coach Mike Singletary. "I thank God for our players and our coaches, their effort, staying together and coming out with the win”, said Singletary. Singletary also touched on Smith’s performance Sunday to the media. "Yeah, he made some nice plays. It was nice to see. There are also some things that he did that he can't do, and we have to continue to clean that up and work on that. But overall, I thought he did a nice job."

Now there’s a more smother transition within the organization the last couple of games. Head coach Singletary has a different problem at the helm. It’s not having to explain the losing factor week in and out, it’s at the quarterback situation with a winning attitude. Is Troy Smith the new QB for the remainder of the season? We're going to enjoy this win and before I get into who's the starting quarterback and all that other stuff, we'll sit down as a staff and talk about what we need to talk about, discuss what we need to discuss, and go from there," said Singletary.

Credit also has to be given to the 49er front offensive line.  Without that line, not matter how excellent a QB is, the winning factor is non-existent. "It will go a long way towards continuing to unify that unit. And those guys have taken pride in what they're doing and they do a thankless job week in and week out and we've got a couple of young guys on that line that are still trying to develop, so it's a lot of good things that are happening. [C David] Baas is doing a nice job in the center position. So we'll just try and continue to keep that unit going forward. Whatever we can do to do that. Coach Solari is doing a tremendous job, as well as Ray Brown, in doing that,” said Singletary.

Singletary mentioned that at this point concerning the extent T Joe Staley’s injury is something he has to talk to doctors about.

There will be another challenge this upcoming Sunday in San Francisco. Troy and his soldiers set out to battle and defend the west coast when enemy ships of cross bones embedded on sails land on the pacific to conquer.
